Full of Events
There are heaps of chess tournaments for our local chess community starting this weekend until the end of January 2008.
We have Segamat Open on 17 Nov, Stonemaster Chess Championship 2007 on 2nd Dec, Sarawak Open from 29th Dec 2007 to 1st of Jan 2008 and ASEAN Youth Team Championship from 1st of Dec 2007 to 7th of Dec 2007.
For those staying in the northern region, like me, in Penang, we have following:
- PCA Grand Prix Open, GP1 on 18 Nov, GP2 on 25 Nov, GP3 on 2 Dec and GP Final on 9 Dec.
- USM Engineering Campus Open 30 Dec 2007
- Penang Chess League on 22~23 Dec 2007
- USM (Penang) Open 2008
- 12~13 Jan 2008 for individual event.
- 19~20 Jan 2008 for team event.
Well, let’s gear up for the events.

MCF Rating
IA Lim Tse Pin had just published the Oct 2007 version of our National Rating via Chess Malaysia Yahoo Group.
My rating increased from 1742 to 1784 (+42 points! from 1 tournament) thanks to my 5.5/6 performance at the recent concluded Merdeka Standard Team Championship.
While waiting for GilaChess to update his website on Malysian Chess Rating, here is the MS Excel version of it ==>> MCF rating Oct07
According to Mr Lim, National Rating is approximately 250 points below FIDE rating.
1784+250 = 2034 which is almost exactly my FIDE rating…

New Rating Lists
Tomorrow is will be the first day of October which means FIDE and MCF will publish their latest rating list. Hopefully we will then get more FIDE rated players for our country this period.

Losses
Pairing of round 6 shows that most of the Malaysian players on the upper boards were beaten by their stronger opponent. No upset this round.

61.5
Finally the long awaited updates on national rating was available at Chess-Malaysia Y!Group. The list is only for those with rating change as the complete list is yet to be published. 61.5 is the total rating point I had gained via the last rating period. Hence, 1680 + 61.5 = 1741.5 == 1742. A new high in my national rating history.

FIDE and MCF
Today is 29th of June which means in 2 days’ time will be 1st of July. Logical? What the… well, in 2 days time FIDE will publish the international rating list and MCF will publish our local national rating list as well. Read the rest of this entry »

So after 5 days of hard fought, National Closed 2007 finally came to an end and I am going off for a 4 days holidays starting tomorrow.
