20,000 tries!

This marathon was completed the night before the UHS Open. Practices make oneself fresh the day before a tournament.

Warming Up!!

Okay, I got started, now I need perseverance! Step 2 is reading! I organized my books before CNY and had my to-read list going again. After reading a game from Capablanca’s Best Chess Endings, I started to have some feel for chess again.

Meanwhile, sense of tactics are still not coming back.

Let’s get started!

Following the tragedy, I started to solve some puzzles today and I need to keep this up! Tournaments are coming at Penang here throughout March to April, I am yet to see the details of the events but I am sure I am playing!! The plan is to practice in these weekends tournament and excel during a FIDE rated event I am planning to play this year…

Today, I started step 1, there are other activities including studies of books, openings, analysis of own games and masters’ games and play a lot of online games!

Step 1: Chess Tactics Server

Today’s practice:

Tragedy @ Chess

First of all congratulations to the winners at USM Team tournament 2010. My performance was disastrous scoring only 5/7 playing at the lower tables (mostly around table 10-20) and giving a free queen in the final round!!

No more excuses for myself. The only way to still continue to survive in chess is to start practising! It’s time to go home a draft out a training plan and throw away all my bad habits throughout last year…

Chess & EuHong?

Chess & EuHong? Yes. I have not been too active in chess lately. Played in the Union Open 2009 but generally my performance was terribly (final result was irrelevant as I got lucky :p )

Ok, after the Back To Japan incident, I should now be more focused since… well, is becoming a ”professional” chess player an option?

My Chess @ 2009 ~ II

Previously I mentioned about playing in at least 1 FIDE rated event this year but the situation now looks like I will get to play in none. However, in return more time is now available for preparation at home!!

Opening renovation and books reading can now be done at a faster pace. Let’s hope the situation will change soon.

So the plan for now is read more, practice more, and play weekend tournaments.

May the force be with me~

My Chess @ 2009

2008 saw a decreasing number of tournaments played by me compared to 2007 especially toward the second half of the year.

It is now 7 days into 2009. Let’s make a wish list instead of to do list for my chess. Wahaha…

  1. Participate in more than 1 FIDE rated events. Still considering whether going for Thailand Open or not… There are some possibilities of end up playing 0 event.
  2. Improve my play… Improvise some training plan? Practice more, read more, and play online?
  3. Revamp some opening!

Ok, wish is wish, action is action… chess must sometimes give way… :(

Life…

Happy New Year!!

Time for Training

Major school examinations are just around the corner and tournaments have to give way for the time being. For those who have lost touch with schooling activities, we are having our Primary Standard 6 UPSR exam now and Secondary Form 3 PMR will follow while SPM and STPM will start in a month’s time.

What should a chess player do during this period if no travel to tournaments in foreign countries is possible?

I am not a big fan of online blitz games so naturally I do not play blitz too often. But when someone do not play for too long, that someone will be “rusty”. What should I do to at least keep myself used to tactics? Solving puzzles!!

There are currently 93 tacticians registered under the flag of Malaysia at the Chess Tactics Server compare to less than 50 accounts when I started my first puzzle almost 2 years ago.
