Getting Serious

Chess Tactics Server

It had been a while since I last posted anything on my adventure toward the jungle of chess training. In fact, it had been a while since I had seriously doing any chess training.

From 5~6 hours per week earlier this year to 5~6 hours per month lately, no wonder I am getting worse at my tournament performance. Taiping tournament and the first half of Penang Closed tournament are very good prove when all my 3 losses from the 11 tournament games are due to tactical oversight.

After the terrible Taiping performance, well not too terrible actually but still terrible compare to my tournament performance at first half of year 2007, I tell myself and some friends during the dinner that I should do more chess exercises…

Guess who I took my dinner with and what I actually told them? It was after the Taiping tournament when we were back in Penang, I told them I should at least play some blitz games online for an hour daily. This actually show that there are some defects in my chess study plan for year 1.

Year 1 of my chess study plan is coming to an end this end of July but guess what, I actually omitted tactical practice (almost completely) and off tournament OTB chess games (I almost never play any game beside tournament games from July 2006 to July 2007). This appear to be a mistake and luckily I realised this around around late year 2006 and implemented some tactical exercises via Chess Tactics Server. More about this study plan after I completed my year 1 study and make some summary. :D

For the moment, I will keep my daily chess playing at FreeChess.org and tactic practice at Chess Tactics Server.

For those that don’t know what is FreeChess.org, take a look at following screen shot or visit their site at FreeChess.org

FreeChess.org is a server to play chess for free with identical functions with the Internet Chess Club but much more simplified version since it is FOC.

On the other hand, I had gone thru a marathon of 14,008 tries at Chess Tactics Server with following statistics.

I am ranked 155 among all the active tacticians at CTS in terms of tries.

Notice Temposchlucker at #4? He is one of the Knight Errant in my posts about the Circle training method. Read them at Part 1 and Part 2.

Well, lets wish myself to have the motivation of continuous chess practice. :D

Cheers!!

Very impressive! But, look at the number 1: he made 102,562 tries and he’s still 1413… so, I don’t think that doing so many excercise rise your strenght, but the way you do it. That’s just my opinion. Thanks for linking my blog, I did the same!

True but I lack the exercises that were suppose to be there to make myself do lesser blunder and I had played better earlier this year when I did more exercise.

Thanks for linking mine and that is how I found out yours. :D
