It had been a while since I last posted anything on my adventure toward the jungle of chess training. In fact, it had been a while since I had seriously doing any chess training.

From 5~6 hours per week earlier this year to 5~6 hours per month lately, no wonder I am getting worse at my tournament performance. Taiping tournament and the first half of Penang Closed tournament are very good prove when all my 3 losses from the 11 tournament games are due to tactical oversight.

After the terrible Taiping performance, well not too terrible actually but still terrible compare to my tournament performance at first half of year 2007, I tell myself and some friends during the dinner that I should do more chess exercises…

61.5

Finally the long awaited updates on national rating was available at Chess-Malaysia Y!Group. The list is only for those with rating change as the complete list is yet to be published. 61.5 is the total rating point I had gained via the last rating period. Hence, 1680 + 61.5 = 1741.5 == 1742. A new high in my national rating history. :D

Anti-Meran Gambit

First half of the Penang Closed Chess Tournament saw some higher seeded players being upset by their opponent in round 1,2 and 3. Among them were Khai Boon, Kian Meng, Gavin and me. :(

Despite the negative final score, the game, a Botvinnik Semi Slav also known as Anti-Meran Gambit of Semi Slav Defence was very interesting.

FIDE July07 Rating List

FIDE had published the July07 rating list. Apparently National Closed 07 was not rated in this rating period so there are no changes to my FIDE rating. I am still stuck at 2043 elo.
