NC07 - Postmortem
National Closed 2007 was concluded on 31 May and we have a new NM. For me, I had played well but did not succeed. It is time to do some postmortem.
Progress: Â 1.0, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0
Problems:
Preparation:
I was not really doing enough preparation for this event due to other work commitment. I guess that is the problem for an amateur player like myself. This issue of “opening” problem borthers me during my game with Sumant and Au Yong Yaw Loo over round 7 and round 9 where I got an inferior position against Sumant and had to accept his draw offer later and had to play 1.e4 against Au Yong Yaw Loo to avoid the King’s Indian Defence and head toward his Caro Kann defence which eventually end up in a draw. My fault on this.
Physical condition:
I had to do more fitness training in future to lose more weight and have better physical fitness throughout a tournament.
Low Aggressiveness and Desire to Win:
My play was not aggressive and the desire to play for a win is not too high compare to Khai Boon. Sometimes I just stop trying and offer a draw.
Lucky?!
Yes! I am being lucky to draw round 2 and win round 5 after my opponents blundered.
Future Improvement:
- Thorough opening preparation or at least on the opening lines that I am going to play.
- Physical fitness training. ![]()
